Student Teacher Guidelines

Only requests from colleges, universities, alternative certification programs, and their affiliated program personnel will be accepted for student teaching and classroom observation. Requests from individual students via email or phone calls will not be considered.

Frisco ISD welcomes student teachers during the Fall and Spring semesters. To request placement for student teaching, please follow the guidelines below:

Instructions for Program Directors, Supervisors and Coordinators:

  1. Review these guidelines in full before starting the application process.

  2. Submit the District Criminal Background Check. Placements will not be made until a background check application has been submitted and cleared.

  3. All prospective student teachers seeking placement in FISD are required to work with their program supervisor to complete and submit a Student Placement Application form. Once complete, the application must be forwarded to the program supervisor for review. The program representative will review, sign, and submit the application to the district on the student’s behalf. NOTE: When completing your application, please designate a contact person. Multiple contacts increase the chance of miscommunication and can cause untimely delays in accommodating requests. .

  4. The application should be submitted by the program supervisor to:

  5. FISD Human Resource Services Department

    via email to StudentTeacher@friscoisd.org

Program applications, if available, may also be included with requests; however, only requests using the FISD application will be processed.

  6. Placement availability is limited; therefore, we ask placement requests be made as soon as possible. It is extremely helpful to have all requests for student teachers submitted at one time. This allows ample time for us to secure appropriate placements for each student.

  7. Students and programs are strongly discouraged from reaching out to principals or individual teachers requesting placement. All requests should go through the Human Resources department as outlined above. You are welcome to include requests for specific placements (teacher, campus, grade level). We will do our best to accommodate these requests, but placement is not guaranteed.

  8. Please share this information with other members of your program as well as with instructors and professors who may assign course requirements.

Background Check

Each student teacher requesting placement must complete and submit a District Criminal Background Check. The background check will be processed, and upon approval, the placement process will begin. No requests for placement will be accepted without an approved background check. NOTE: FISD updates background information annually. If a student has submitted a background application in previous school years, it will need to be renewed.
