Student Observer Guidelines

Due to the volume of requests we receive, Frisco ISD will only place individuals for observation who are enrolled in programs that lead directly to student teaching. Only requests from colleges, universities, alternative certification programs, and their affiliated program personnel will be accepted for classroom observation. Requests from individual students via email or phone calls will not be considered.

Frisco ISD welcomes student observers during the Fall and Spring semesters. To request placement for observation hours, please follow the guidelines below:

Instructions for Program Directors, Supervisors and Coordinators:

  1. Review these guidelines in full before starting the application process.

  2. Submit the District Criminal Background Check. Placements will not be made until the background check has been submitted and cleared.

  3. All students seeking observation hours in FISD are required to work with their program supervisor to complete and submit a Student Observer Request Form. Once complete, the application must be forwarded to the program supervisor for review. The program representative will review, sign, and submit the application to the district on the student’s behalf. NOTE: When completing your application, please designate a contact person. Multiple contacts increase the chance of miscommunication and can cause untimely delays in accommodating requests

  4. Requests for observation are limited to a maximum of 30 hours. Requests for observation that exceed this will be denied. This is above the 15 clock hours required by Chapter 28. Requirements for Educator Preparation Programs sec. 228.2 (10).

  5. The application should be submitted by the program supervisor to:

  6. FISD Human Resource Services Department

    via email to StudentObserver@friscoisd.org

Program applications, if available, may also be included with requests; however, only requests using the FISD application will be processed.

  7. Placement availability is limited; therefore, we ask placement requests be made as soon as possible. It is extremely helpful to have all requests for observers submitted at one time. This allows ample time for us to secure appropriate placements for each student

  8. Students and programs are strongly discouraged from reaching out to principals or individual teachers requesting placement. All requests should go through the Human Resources department as outlined above. You are welcome to include requests for specific placements (teacher, campus, grade level). We will do our best to accommodate these requests, but placement is not guaranteed.

Timelines for Placements

Fall Semester

Observation requests for Fall must be received by the third Friday of October.

Spring Semester

Observation requests for Spring must be received by the third Friday of March.

Adherence to the timeline will assist us in accommodating request in an efficient and timely manner.

Background Check

Each student observer requesting placement must complete and submit a District Criminal Background Check. The background check will be processed, and upon approval, the placement process will begin. No requests for placement will be accepted without an approved background check. NOTE: FISD updates background information annually. If a student has submitted a background application in previous school years, it will need to be renewed.
