Standard Reunification Method

At Frisco ISD, the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority—especially in times of crisis. As part of our comprehensive emergency planning, we have adopted the Standard Reunification Method (SRM), a nationally recognized protocol developed to help safely reunite K-12 students with their families after a significant emergency or school evacuation.

About SRM

The SRM provides a clear, efficient, and compassionate process that ensures every child is accounted for and reunited with their parent or guardian in an organized manner. This method not only increases safety but also helps reduce anxiety during high-stress situations by providing families with a reliable system of communication and support.

FISD encourages all parents and guardians to take a few moments to review the information below, and the additional resources provided, to better understand how the SRM works and what to expect should a reunification ever become necessary. Parents should follow these steps if a reunification emergency occurs:

  • Follow Instructions Provided in Official Notifications: Await communications from the district, then follow instructions and directions for where to go and what to bring.

  • Bring government issued identification to the reunification site: Government-issued ID will be required to validate status as an authorized parent or guardian.

  • Limit cell phone traffic: Keeping cellular network usage at a minimum will be important to ensure uninterrupted reunification processing.

  • Limit the number of siblings, family members or friends brought to the site: Others brought to the reunification site may increase wait times and processing complexity.

  • Remain calm and stay patient: Reunification processing includes a methodical approach to ensure students are returned to authorized parent or guardian. This process cannot be hurried and may last several hours, depending upon the number of students to be processed.
