AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program that targets students in the academic middle and supports them in taking advanced coursework. The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

In addition to at least one advanced class, students in AVID are enrolled in the AVID Elective course where the curriculum is based on the acronym WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading). Students also spend part of the elective course in  groups facilitated by  trained AVID tutors to get further help in their advanced coursework.

AVID is currently offered to 7th and 8th graders at Hunt Middle School and Staley Middle School and in 2020-2021 will begin for 9th graders at Frisco High School and Memorial High School.
