Under Texas law, a student who has three or more unexcused absences (full or partial days) within a four-week period, or seven or more unexcused absences (full or partial days) within a six-month period, is considered to be truant. This includes unexcused late arrivals and early pickups.
When a student reaches these thresholds, the school will implement truancy prevention measures and work with the family to improve attendance.
Any student who accumulates ten or more unexcused absences—whole or partial days—will be referred to district truancy. At this stage, a summons will be issued to appear in person at a truancy tribunal.
Payton, Nix & Associates facilitates all truancy tribunals for Frisco ISD. Through their support, truancy prevention measures are put in place for students. Campuses and facilitators help monitor the progress throughout this process in hopes of changing the student's behavior.
