Grandparent Transfers

Students can now attend Frisco ISD schools if they have a grandparent living within the district boundaries. The student will be eligible to attend Frisco ISD schools with enrollment capacity.

Eligibility

A nonresident Kindergarten through 9th grade student who has at least one grandparent who is a resident of the District may apply for admittance to the District by:

  1. identifying a qualifying grandparent and their residence address,

  2. providing sufficient documentation to verify a legal grandparent relationship exists between the student and resident grandparent,

  3. providing proof of grandparent residency in two forms.

Application

Grandparent Transfer requests to be admitted into grades Kindergarten through 9th grade may be submitted to campuses that are projected at less than capacity.

When: Opens June 23, 2025

How: A link to upload basic information and documentation to establish a legal grandparent relationship will be made available when the window opens.

For Consideration

The Administrative Transfer Guidelines will be a helpful resource when choosing to keep your child to Frisco ISD via a Grandparent Transfer.

  • All Grandparent Transfer students must meet the eligibility requirements of Access Frisco transfers and the resident grandparent must provide written consent for the use of their residence address for enrollment purposes.

  • Once a child is enrolled as a ninth grader, they can stay at their campus until graduation.

  • If the grandparent moves within Frisco ISD, the student can keep their Grandparent Transfer but must update the grandparent’s new address with the District.

  • If the grandparent moves out of Frisco ISD, a student who has completed at least one year in the District may apply to stay through a Legacy Transfer or request an Access Frisco transfer during the annual transfer window.

  • High school: Grandparent Transfer students should be aware that high school transfers may prohibit a student from immediately participating in varsity level activities that base eligibility upon established residence, including UIL and other residence-based activities.

  • A Grandparent Transfer student may stay at the assigned campus through all available grade levels, as long as they follow District policies and the transfer agreement. To continue after that, a new Grandparent Transfer request is required.

While Frisco ISD extends transfer opportunities for students in and out of district boundaries, the District maintains high expectations for these students. Transfers are a privilege, not a right. Learn about District-Initiated Transfer Withdrawals.
