For the first time, Frisco ISD has a state champion in UIL Theatrical Design.
Liberty High School freshman Karthika Menon earned first place in 5A Hair/Makeup Design at the recent state competition.
Six Frisco ISD students qualified for state UIL Theatrical Design, which was held this month in Austin. The following students received special recognition as top six finalists in their categories:
Sami Hengstenberg, Centennial - 3rd Place, 5A Set Design
Garrett Brooks, Wakeland - 4th Place, 5A Set Design
Katie Lee, Wakeland - 5th Place, 5A Costume Design
Students were asked to design concepts around a specific work, which this year was Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell. Designers were required to select a theme and statement that would drive all design decisions.
“We are so proud of Karthika and all of Frisco ISD’s state-qualifying designers,” said Erin Miller, chief student services officer. “These achievements not only show their exceptional talent and creativity but also the dedication and hard work they’ve invested in their craft.”
Also this month, Frisco ISD was represented at state UIL One-Act Play with Frisco High School’s production of Antonio Lorenzo Vannozzo's Pinocchio.
The impressive team of actors and technicians, led by directors Jami Sauls and Lisa Custer, took sixth place among all 5A schools in Texas. This enormous achievement was the culmination of a long process that included Zone, District, Bi-District, Area and Region competitions.
The following individual recognitions were awarded:
5A Outstanding Technician (gold medal) - Madeline Leveridge
5A All-Star Cast (silver medal) - Gage Dragoo
5A Honorable Mention All-Star Cast (bronze medal) - Corey Vice
Frisco High’s state UIL One-Act Play competitors were Mia Bailly, Emma D'Andria, Emerson Daniel, Reagan Donnelly, Gage Dragoo, Andrew Godwin, Samantha Imena, Anish Javvadi, Finley Johnson, Palmer Johnson, Angelina Kmaya, Veer Krishnapuram, Olivia Lay, Rian Leiser, Madeline Leveridge, Crystal Nerren, Hudson Rose, Laushik Setty, Meredith Stilwill, Ainsley Smith, Luisa Swain, Aniah Vincent, Isaac Vincent and Corey Vice.
