After nearly a month of tournaments and nondistrict matches, Frisco ISD volleyball teams get into the matches that matter this week.
All the matches matter, of course. Every one is a chance to win, improve and have fun. But on Tuesday (Sept. 8), district matches begin, and those are the ones that matter for making the playoffs.
Most of FISD’s volleyball teams will open district play Tuesday night. They’ll be playing in three UIL districts — which are part of the UIL’s alignments for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years. Here are the UIL volleyball districts:
6-5A: Lone Star, Panther Creek, Reedy, Denton, Denton Ryan, The Colony, Prosper Richland
11-5A: Centennial, Emerson, Frisco, Heritage, Independence, Liberty, Lebanon Trail, Memorial
5-6A: Wakeland, Denton Braswell, Denton Guyer, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Flower Mound Marcus, Hebron, Little Elm
Four teams from each UIL district make the playoffs, and each district sends two teams to both the Division I or Division II bracket of a particular classification. For example, two playoff teams to Division I, two playoff teams to Division II.
Among the four playoff teams in each district, the two teams from the schools with the largest enrollment go to Division I and the teams from the smaller-enrollment schools go to Division II. The playoffs will begin Oct. 29.
Recent success: It has been an exciting last four seasons for Frisco ISD in volleyball. In 2022, Reedy became the first FISD team to advance to the state championship match, and it finished as the 5A state runner-up. In 2024, Wakeland became the first FISD volleyball state champion when it captured the 5A Division II title. Last year, Liberty advanced to the 5A Division II state semifinals.
