The fall sports season is here, with cross country, team tennis and volleyball already well into competition and football just a few days away. It’s an exciting time of the year, filled with anticipation – and the hope that fall temperatures will arrive soon.
It’s also a time for lots of preseason rankings, and although coaches often say that the only rankings that matter are those at the end of the season, preseason rankings are a chance for recognition.
In the case of Frisco ISD teams, there’s a lot of recognition.
In football, three teams are in the Dallas Morning News’ preseason rankings of Dallas-area teams. In Class 5A, Lone Star is No. 2 and Panther Creek, in its first year since moving up from 4A, is No. 15. Frisco High is No. 16.
In volleyball, two FISD programs with recent success are in the DMN’s preseason top 10: Reedy at No. 6 and Liberty at No. 8. Reedy was a state finalist in 2022 and Liberty was a state semifinalist last season.
And then there’s tennis, a sport in which Frisco ISD is always loaded with excellent teams. So loaded, in fact, that the Centennial tennis team – which has won the last three 5A state team tennis titles – isn’t the highest-ranked FISD team in the Texas Tennis Coaches Association’s preseason rankings.
Nine FISD high school teams are in the state rankings, led by No. 1 Independence.
Here’s the full list of FISD teams in the state rankings:

1. Independence
4. Frisco
5. Centennial
7. Lebanon Trail
9. Emerson
11. Reedy
12. Heritage

Good luck to all of Frisco ISD’s teams this season!
