Congratulations Dr. Waldrip

The Frisco Chamber of Commerce has spent 55 years advocating for the community at large by spotlighting and supporting businesses and leaders. And at the chamber’s annual gala Friday evening, that spotlight was put on an individual who has dedicated nearly 10 years to leading Frisco ISD and its students: Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip, the chamber’s Executive Leader of the Year.

Dr. Waldrip, who announced his retirement last fall after 44 years in education, has had a lasting impact on Frisco ISD that can be felt beyond the campus walls. As Chamber President Christal Howard put it, Dr. Waldrip can be thanked for his impact on the future of Frisco.

“On behalf of so many of us with kids in Frisco ISD, thank you for all you’ve done for our families, for each of us and for our future workforce,” Howard said at the Frisco Chamber Annual Awards Celebration.

Waldrip said he appreciated the award but credited the District’s success to the employees of Frisco ISD — “the ones who actually do the work.”

“Those of us who lead organizations know we don’t lead alone,” Dr. Waldrip said. “There was a group of board members nine years ago who gave me this opportunity, and I’ll be forever grateful to them for that. This room is filled with Frisco ISD individuals, board members, people who work for us — they’re the ones who actually do the work. So thank you for this.”

Each year, the Frisco Chamber Annual Awards Celebration shines a spotlight on exceptional businesses, leaders and organizations whose work strengthens the Frisco community. While the chamber proudly honors nominees and recipients, the gala is about more than individual recognition — it’s a celebration of the entire Frisco business community.

Frisco ISD, the city’s largest employer with nearly 9,000 employees including 5,000 teachers, was also nominated for a Chamber award in the Best Employer category. Learn more about FISD employment and find open positions.
