Three Education and Training students will compete against their peers from across the U.S. at this summer’s Educators Rising Nationals Conference.

After success at the state contest, three Frisco ISD students in the Education and Training pathway have advanced to the Educators Rising National Conference.

Of Frisco ISD’s four Texas Association of Future Educators state-qualifying projects, Reedy High School juniors Abby Valdez and Klara Bryant advance to nationals as a team in Varsity Interactive Bulletin Board, while Panther Creek junior Ellen Jeong advances in Teacher-Created Materials.

TAFE is one of several career and technical student organizations available to Frisco ISD students to develop future-ready skills through academic competition. As part of TAFE, students explore the teaching profession while promoting character, service and leadership skills necessary for becoming effective educators.

“It's great for aspiring educators to have opportunities to showcase their talents in lesson planning and delivering, and creating teacher resources,” said Nicky Fryman, Career and Technical Education Center teacher and Education and Training coordinator. “TAFE expands opportunities for students to get involved and lead, and have their moment to shine, too.”

National qualifier Abby Valdez said she’s proud to be competing at the next level a year after her team became the first state qualifier from Frisco ISD. She said she’s learning skills for her future career, such as working as a team, communicating and building classroom lessons.

"I think these opportunities helped me get ready for the future and show how much I care about education,” Abby said. “It felt great to be able to show what I know and actually get graded on it. Making it all the way to nationals and seeing those scores — it was such a rewarding experience!"

Congratulations to Abby, Klara and Ellen, and best of luck at nationals in June!
