It was an exciting regular season of volleyball in Frisco ISD, even needing a district tiebreaker match Monday to determine the final playoff spot. And as the playoffs start, it has already been an historic season for a pair of Frisco ISD volleyball programs.
For Reedy, this is the first time it has finished undefeated in district play. Reedy finished 12-0 in District 6-5A. It was the first district title since 2021 for Reedy, which was also the Class 5A state runner-up in 2022.
For Memorial, it was even more of a breakthrough season as the Warriors are co-champions of District 11-5A with Centennial. While Centennial has won several district championships in school history, including six straight from 2009 to 2014, Memorial earned a share of a district title for the first time in school history.
“They just play so hard,” Memorial coach Jami Dover said of her team. “They’re gritty and scrappy. They’re such a great group.”
Now Memorial enters the playoffs, along with six other Frisco ISD teams, against tough competition and hoping to extend the season. Matches will begin this week (see below for schedules and ticket information).
“We’ve embraced an underdog mentality,” said Memorial senior Ava Funderburk. “We play our best when we play tough teams and we feel like we have nothing to lose.”
The playoff brackets are set, and with the University Interscholastic League splitting the volleyball playoffs into Division I and Division II for each classification (2A-6A), the FISD teams are in three brackets:
6A Division II: Wakeland
5A Division I: Reedy, Centennial, Liberty
5A Division II: Memorial, Frisco, Lone Star
