Career and Technical Education Center students recently competed in the Texas High School Mock Trial State Championships and placed runner-up after a competitive set of rounds.
During the competition, students were provided a case to defend or prosecute and three attorneys and three witnesses represented each school’s side. Rounds were competitive and included a rigorous set of cross-examinations and objections.
Watch the State Mock Trial Competition Championship Round for an impressive display of student talent.
The CTEC team won the Team Professionalism Award, an honor voted on by all competitors at the state event and given to the team that demonstrates qualities of fair play. Throughout the competition, the CTEC mock trial team displayed a consistent professional
demeanor and demonstrated courtesy both inside and outside of the courtroom.
Notably, Centennial senior Prisha Mehta was named a finalist for Best Advocate.
The mock trial team prepared for the event throughout the school year through weekly meetings and several scrimmage matches. Without a doubt, their hard work is to be commended.
As finalists, the award-winning CTEC mock trial team will receive scholarships.
Congratulations to these students who represent several campuses from across the District and are a testament to the collaborative spirit of the event as attorneys, witnesses and timekeepers:
