Heritage Seniors Exhibit Films in National Film Festivals

Each year, in the heart of New York City, All-American High School Film Festival presents the world's largest high school film festival. The AAHSFF is the premier destination for talented high school filmmakers and media arts enthusiasts from around the world.

Three Heritage students screened their films at the festival this past fall. Shreyansh Dixit, Sarah DeWitt and Alysen Rose collaborated on “Adrift,” a film about a woman’s struggles with her mental health and the pressures of ideals.

Senior Alysen Rose screened an additional film,“Kindness Counts,” a film about two teenagers who that blame themselves for a recent failure but find comfort in the help of a bystander.

Senior Shreyansh Dixit also screened “Texas Power Outage: Sights and Sounds,” a film about the massive winter storm in February 2021. The film won Best of the Fest at AAHSFF and several awards at other competitions

Students Save Batteries from Landfills

Students across Frisco ISD joined together to gather batteries from their homes in an effort to recycle batteries and save them from area landfills. The District collected about 1,500 pounds of batteries during the drive, ensuring harmful chemicals were diverted from landfills and the metals were recycled. The battery drive is just one of many recycling programs offered through the District. Congratulations to Newman Elementary that won the drive with their collection of 102 pounds!

Clark MS ESL Adopted Grandparents

Clark ESL Students Adopt Grandparents

Image provided: Ms. Lorraine and Mr. Melvin proudly pose with Ms. Urias to show off their new Clark Middle School spirit wear.

The Clark Middle School ESL/ILA Newcomer Class researched social issues in order to identify ways to make an impact in their community. After reading informational texts on the topic of elder orphans and researching the growing elderly population across America, the ESL newcomer students brainstormed a call to action by adopting "classroom grandparents" who do not have families and live in a nearby home, Baybrook Village Care. Students delivered gift boxes and visited with adopted grandparents. Thank you to Baybrook Village Care for partnering with the class and opening their arms to the students in this future-ready learning experience!
