Roach Student Advances to Dallas Regional Spelling Bee

Samarth Khurana - Collin County Bee FinalistCongratulations to Roach Middle School’s Samarth Khurana who finished fourth at the Collin County Spelling Bee and advanced to the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee!

The Collin County Spelling Bee was held at Faubion Middle School in McKinney where organizers identified the top four spellers advancing to the Dallas Regional Bee.

This year, there was a total of 47 contestants and it ran 16 incredible rounds. The champion word was “paraph.”

Paraph (noun):

  • Origin - This word is from an originally Greek word that passed into Latin and then French before becoming English.

  • Definition - A flourish at the end of a signature sometimes used as a sort of simple safeguard against forgery.

Alexander Agera, a fifth grader at Rogers Elementary, placed fifth and is the alternate for the Dallas Regional Bee. Agera will compete since one of the original four finalists will not attend the regional bee.

The Regional Bee will be broadcast on WFAA Channel 8. Learn more at the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee website.
