FISD Tennis Teams Impressive in Playoffs

Oct 18, 2021

The first two rounds of the UIL team tennis playoffs showed again that Frisco ISD is a tennis power. The District’s four playoff qualifiers – Independence, Lebanon Trail, Liberty and Centennial – rolled over their opponents to move into the third round.

Unfortunately, that's when the four FISD playoff teams had to play each other.

On Tuesday, Lebanon Trail defeated Liberty and Independence topped Centennial in 5A regional quarterfinals. After Independence and Lebanon Trail had shut out their first two playoff opponents, they got tough battles from their FISD friends and rivals. The Independence-Centennial score was 10-7 and the Lebanon Trail-Liberty score was 10-4.

Independence and Lebanon Trail advanced to the 5A Region 2 Tournament, which will be Thursday and Friday (Oct. 21-22) at the Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills. Lebanon Trail will take on Texarkana Texas High at 9 a.m. and Independence will play defending state champion Independence at 2 p.m.

Good luck to Independence and Lebanon Trail at the region tournament and congratulations to all the FISD players and coaches who have made this another special season of team tennis.
