In a year like none other, Frisco ISD visual and performing arts programs, students and teachers continued to shine in UIL contests.
Students from Heritage and Lebanon Trail fine arts programs were invited to participate in the state UIL competitions for their film and theatre productions.
“We are so proud of and thankful for all of these wonderful student artists and their outstanding educators,” said Cade Butler, fine arts coordinator.
UIL Young Filmmaker, Heritage High School’s Justin Nguyen
Heritage High School junior Justin Nguyen was invited to compete in the UIL Young Filmmakers Festival this spring where he was named a Finalist at the State competition. The Festival promotes the engagement of aspiring young filmmakers to create short films that showcase skill in creative storytelling.
Out of the hundreds of short films submitted, Nguyen qualified for his short film Carry On and was one of the top 5 films in Digital Animation for the 2020-21 school year.
Congratulations to Nguyen and his fine arts teachers Michelle Robinson and Lindy Englander on a job well done!
UIL One-Act Play, Lebanon Trail High School’s W;t
Congratulations to the Lebanon Trail High School theatre cast who competed in the renowned UIL State One-Act Play Contest recently in Round Rock.
The contest series includes six possible levels of competition from Zone to State. At each level, the judge awarded individual acting awards and selected casts to move to the next round. After a grueling competitive circuit in the UIL One-Act Play Contest, FISD had one theatre program that was selected as one of the top eight programs across the state to advance to the final round, State.
Lebanon Trail High School theatre was honored as a State Finalist for their one-act play W;t about a woman facing ovarian cancer as she reflects on her life, career and illness. Three theatre students were also honored for their contributions to the show.
