Congratulations to Reedy High School senior Anita Ashok and Heritage High School junior Kashish Bastola who have advanced to the final round of the Harlan Institute-Ashbrook Moot Court Competition!
The competition offers teams of two high school students the opportunity to write persuasive appellate briefs, argue against other students through online video chats and persuade a panel of esteemed attorneys during oral argument that their side is correct.
After having submitted their written brief and video in support of the Respondent for the recently decided Supreme Court case of Torres v. Madrid, Ashok and Bastola advanced through multiple rounds of the oral argument competition.
Ashok and Bastola will compete against another two-student team from Arizona representing the Petitioner later this month for the competition’s national title.
The championship round will be held over Zoom and will be judged by a panel of expert judges, including lawyers, university-level debate champions and legal scholars.
The members of the top Petitioner and Respondent teams will be invited to attend the Ashbrook Academy on the Supreme Court and the Constitution in June.
The students are led by legal studies instructor Ben Ewald.
