Phillips Teacher is the VFW Citizenship Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Phillips Elementary fifth grade teacher Alison Fales who has won the VFW Citizenship Teacher of the Year at the elementary level for both the Frisco Post and the VFW District 1. Fales is a U.S. Army Veteran and is committed to helping her students understand civic responsibility and their ability to impact their community. Fales is recognized for her outstanding commitment to teaching citizenship to her students. Congrats!
FISD Staff Member Publishes Book
Congratulations to Roshel Merriweather who recently published a book called Karson Goes to School. Merriweather works in Frisco ISD’s transportation department and is passionate about giving a voice to children with ADHD, especially young African American boys.
Wakeland Student is the Frisco VFW 8273 Scout of the Year
Congratulations to Wakeland High School junior Matthew Miller who has been recognized as the 2020-21 Frisco VFW 8273 Scout of the Year. With this recognition, Miller’s application will advance to the District level for the next round of competition. Student Wins Visual Art Guild Competition
Congratulations to Frisco High School junior Lilly Heit who won 1st place in Drawing/Mixed Media at the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco Fresh Star Show that was exhibited at the Frisco Discovery Center. The VAGF juried exhibition was an opportunity to create from an awakening of a new concept, a new proposal, new material or a new desire to express oneself. Keep up the great work!
CTEC Students Progress in Supreme Court Competition
Congratulations to the CTEC team advancing to the semifinal round of the Harlan Institute and Ashbrook Virtual Supreme Court Competition. Heritage High School junior Kashish Bastola and Reedy High School senior Anita Ashok are one of only 22 teams left nationwide. This weekend, Bastola and Ashok will represent the respondent in oral arguments in a case argued in the Supreme Court case Torres v. Madrid. The students have written a brief in support of their side and have submitted a video of them presenting information on behalf of the respondent in anticipation of the competition. The winner of the competition will win a trip to D.C. in June. Best of luck!
FISD Students to Attend Boys State
Frisco’s American Legion Post 178 has announced the finalists for its 2021 Texas Boys State Virtual Program to be held this summer. Eighteen of the 20 high school juniors selected attend Frisco ISD. They competed against an exceptional group of candidates nominated by high school principals, counselors and teachers. The American Legion Boys State is a program where each delegate becomes part of the process of his local, county and state government. Delegates are exposed to the rights and privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen.
