Students Shine in Renowned Writing and Art Competition

Feb 12, 2021

More than two dozen secondary students have been selected by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers as Scholastic Art and Writing Southwest Region Winners

The annual competition is for teenagers aged 13 and up from around the country who applied in 28 categories of art and writing. Last year, more than 300,000 students submitted works for consideration.

Students’ entries were blindly adjudicated by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts who looked for works that exemplify originality, technical skill and an authentic and unique point of view and style.

The students who received a Gold Key move onto the national competition where they will be judged by professors from Pratt Institute and other major art schools. If they win a Gold Medal, they will be featured in a publication, potentially win scholarships and receive an actual gold medal. Gold medal artwork will also travel as part of a cross-country gallery show.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists when they were teenagers.

Register and save the date to join the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers from around the country as they honor the regional winners of the 2021 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards via a virtual ceremony live on Thursday, March 4 at 6 p.m.

Congratulations to all of these students recognized with 2021 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
