Congratulations to recent Lebanon Trail High School graduate Alec Zorrilla who competed in the Virtual Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National STAR competition in the Nutrition and Wellness Level 3 category in July.
Zorrilla received the Gold Medal which is the highest honor given in the National STAR Competitive Events.
For Zorrilla’s submission, he focused on the impact of a vegan diet on athletes. He was inspired by his interest in leading a healthier lifestyle while increasing one’s ability as an athlete.
He started the process in October of 2019 after being inspired in Aneesha Jackson’s Food Science class when he had the opportunity to watch the Netflix documentary “The Game Changers.” He worked diligently for months on his research that included analyzing nutritional metrics, consulting with his advisors Michelle Fiszer and Jackson and preparing an award-winning presentation.
He received first place at Region and State FCCLA competitions in February and April and represented FISD well by earning one of the 131 Texas National Gold Medals.
