Heritage Sophomores Fundraise for Frontline Workers
Kudos to Heritage High School sophomores Tanya Sayooj and Amoolya Tadepalli on their continued efforts to buy gift cards for frontline workers. The pair is accepting donations through their Spreading Thanks website. Their efforts were featured on CBS and NBC.
Centennial Juniors Spread Kindness to Dallas ISD
Centennial High School juniors Manogna Jonnalagadda and Prisha Mehta have launched a campaign to gather school supplies, storybooks, classroom essentials, hygiene products and letters of encouragement for more than 300 teachers and elementary school students in Dallas ISD schools. Freshmen Attend UT Southwestern Science Camp
Congratulations to incoming freshmen Prithikaa Sadagopan of Heritage High School, Ananya Chiluka of Lebanon Trail High School and Sreyadevi Sudhahar of Lone Star High School who were selected to attend the UTSW STARS Program Biology Camp this summer. This highly competitive two-week camp was held virtually this year and students had the opportunity to engage in lessons on everything from cell transport to protein synthesis. Congratulations to these students on their opportunity to continue their STEM growth.
Heritage Drumline Honors Health Care Workers
Some students of the Heritage High School drumline joined other students from across North Texas to honor those working at the Dallas VA Hospital, especially one nurse who was retiring after 40 years. They celebrated the health care workers who serve the North Texas veterans and were featured on CBS 11. Click here to watch the feature.
Stafford Student Shines at Robotics Competition
Stafford Middle School seventh grader Sachchit Balamurugan earned an Honorable Mention in the middle school category of the LocoRobo 2020 Robotics Design Competition. The competition had over a thousand entries from all over the nation from middle and high school students. Entrants had to write an essay, create a presentation video and create a 3D model of their design. Balamurugan’s project, "Underwater Fossil Finding Robot" was recognized for its innovative design for finding fossils in parts of the ocean that humans cannot reach.
Student is a 3M Young Scientist Challenge Finalist
Congratulations to Anika Chebrolu, an incoming freshman at Independence High School, for being a Finalist in the 2020 3M Young Scientist Challenge. Chebrolu used silico testing to develop a more effective solution to combat the influenza virus in hopes to reduce the nearly 45 million cases and over 60,000 deaths reported annually. Chebrolu started her work on this entry at Nelson Middle School and hopes to one day become a medical researcher and professor. Check out her entry here.
