Congratulations to Frisco ISD Diving Coach Claudia Sunday, who has been named the State Diving Coach of the Year.
Sunday, who is in her second year as the instructor for all FISD Divers, was selected for the award by the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. Sunday was nominated by her fellow coaches and voted Coach of the Year by the TISCA Board of Directors.
“Coach Sunday is deserving of this award and we are happy that she is being recognized,” Frisco ISD Athletic Director David Kuykendall said. “The combination of her knowledge and passion to help our student-athletes is a great benefit to our divers.”
Sunday said it's an honor to be selected when there are so many great coaches in the state. She also said she's gets to coach a lot of wonderful student-athletes, which includes Memorial High School sophomore Peyton Guziec, who in February earned a bronze medal in girls one-meter diving at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet.
Coaching divers from 10 high schools can be daunting, but Sunday enjoys the challenge.
"I've got a lot of talent to work with and a really great group of kids," she said. "The biggest thing is that they're very coachable."
