Back-to-School Bash Brings Strong Start to School Year

Aug 14, 2019

Back to School Bash Backpacks Lined Up Ready for Students. The end of summer and prepping for the new school year can be extremely stressful. To help alleviate the stress, the District held its annual Back-to-School Bash to help provide school supplies and connect FISD families with various community resources.

As the school District continues to grow, so does the number of students and families in need of assistance.

“I am so excited to reach out to the students and families and to help them have the opportunity to be ready for a strong start to school,” said Elma Montenegro, the District’s student and family services facilitator. “This event has evolved over the years and I’m excited to see the turnout as the District continues to support students and their families.”

As families arrived, they checked in according to an RSVP system enacted to ensure a smooth flow into the Frisco High School gym.

The first stop was manned by the ladies of the Omega Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. They helped students choose a new backpack and school supplies.

“We know that education can improve lives not only for the individual but can impact generations and we want to support our community,” said Alana Miller, first vice president. “We have supported this beginning of year event for years. Service to mankind is in our mantra.”

Across the gym, there were shrieks of joy as students and families won various items from the participating businesses and organizations.

Laura Pitree watched as her three school-aged boys received haircuts from Auzzie, a barber at V’s Barbershop.

“I want the boys to look sharp on their first day,” Pitree said. “Getting haircuts and school supplies really makes the start to the school year easier. I’m glad to receive some help.”

More than 2,000 families attended the event and it was clear that the businesses in the area wanted to make a difference that benefited the students in attendance.

“As the District grows, it is important that the event evolves with it,” Miller said. “The joy in the kids’ faces when they see their new backpacks and school supplies makes everything worth it. I can’t wait to see how this event continues to evolve for the benefit of the families in our community in the future.”

Thank you to the community members of all ages who donated their time to the Back-to-School Bash and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for their continued partnership. Thank you to the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation, a gold sponsor of the event. Also, a special thank you to these vendors who went the extra mile to prove that Frisco is all about supporting each other.
