The Liberty High School girls basketball team is headed to the UIL State Tournament for the second time.
The Redhawks, who were the 5A state runner-up in 2016, will play their state semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Liberty (31-10) will play Kerrville Tivy (37-1).
Liberty got to the state tournament by beating Frisco Lone Star in overtime on Saturday in the 5A Region II final. Liberty’s win-loss record doesn’t sparkle as much as some other state qualifiers, but the Redhawks played an extremely difficult nondistrict schedule. Included among Liberty’s early-season opponents were 5A state qualifier Amarillo and 6A state qualifiers Allen and DeSoto.
