The Frisco ISD Guidance and Counseling Department will host a parent education event the evening of Oct. 23 to benefit students of all ages. The program, entitled “Promoting School Safety Through Connection and Mental Wellness” will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Administration Building Board Room, 5515 Ohio Drive.
Dr. Stephanie Cook, managing director of guidance and counseling, will discuss strategies to keep families, students, schools and communities safe by encouraging a variety of protective factors.
As children grow, there are numerous variables that promote or hinder mental health development. By developing protective factors, children are more likely to effectively deal with stressful events and avoid risky behaviors.
Past speakers hosted by Guidance and Counseling have covered topics on everything from suicide prevention to stress management. FISD recognizes that it can be difficult to make sessions in the evening and will record the keynote speaker and post a video on the Parent Education Opportunities page for future reference.
FISD will host additional parent education seminars during the 2018-19 school year, including a program on David’s Law, which focuses on cyberbullying prevention. Look for details coming soon on the FISD calendar.
