Students from Norris Elementary recently sampled healthy snacks made by culinary arts students at the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center.
The goal? To help select which treats would be featured in the 2018-19 edition of the Kids Teaching Kids recipe book.
Each year, FISD partners with Medical City Children’s Hospital on the 21-Day Challenge, an effort to educate and engage students in better nutrition and help families build healthy eating habits.
Culinary arts students from across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex create snacks for the recipe book, which is then distributed to families for use during the challenge.
Norris students joined staff in sampling three CTE student creations – a kiwi yogurt parfait, sweet-and-salty sweet potato chips and a sweet potato popsicle. The snacks were judged based on taste, appearance and ease of preparation.
The winners were the yogurt parfait and sweet potato chips. Look for them coming to a recipe book near you this fall!
