This Weekend: State Swimming, Regional Wrestling, BB Playoffs

Feb 15, 2018

In terms of the amount of athletes involved and the number of teams competing, this might be Frisco ISD’s busiest sports weekend of the year. Athletes from eight sports – baseball, basketball, powerlifting, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and wrestling – are scheduled to compete from Thursday through Saturday.

The competition ranges from intrasquad scrimmages for baseball, a sport that begins its regular season next week, to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Swimming and Diving Meet, which wraps up the swimming season.

The complete FISD athletics schedule is here.

Notable events Thursday through Saturday:

  • The UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet is Friday and Saturday at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. FISD has 51 swimmers and divers qualified for the meet, which begins Friday morning at 10 a.m. A full schedule is here.

  • FISD wrestling teams will be competing in the 5A Region 2 Championships on Friday and Saturday at Independence High School. Competition begins Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

  • The girls basketball teams from Lone Star High School and Liberty High School play in the area round of the UIL 5A playoffs. Lone Star plays Sulphur Springs on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rockwall High School and Liberty takes on Texarkana Texas High School on Friday at 8 p.m. at Wills Point High School.

Soccer teams will return to competition on Tuesday, and the UIL boys basketball playoffs begin next week.
