Students from Maus and Stafford middle schools competed in the 9th Annual “Aiming for the Stars” African American Male Academic Bowl Competition on Jan. 27 at The University of Texas at Dallas.
The competition promotes academic achievement, teamwork and leadership among young men in grades 6-8. It consists of three components, including a mathematics quiz round, Jeopardy-style academic quiz bowl and engineering project. This year, teams were tasked with constructing a rubber racer in 30 minutes using CDs, pencils, rubber bands, tape and cardboard.
Maus Middle School swept the top three places in the competition, which drew teams from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Congratulations to the following students:
- 1st Place – Sam Davis, Noah Billings and Bryce Brown (8B)
- 2nd Place – Dameon Powell, Marcus Rockwell, Pranav Brahmmadevara (7B)
- 3rd Place – Timothy Waters, Geetha Kalakoti and Emeka Ohumaegbulem (7A)
