Thursday, May 4 was officially proclaimed Clark Middle School Band Day by former Frisco Mayor Maher Maso, who visited the school and its award-winning band on the afternoon of the 4th. He read the proclamation to the students and their directors.
Also in attendance were Superintendent Jeremy Lyon, FISD School Board President Anne McCausland and Board Secretary Debbie Gillespie.
The Clark Cougar Band, under direction of Band Director Benjamin Katz, performed for its guests, giving them a small taste of what fans can expect on Tuesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at Stonebriar Community Church when the band performs a special presentation concert and is presented with the esteemed John Philip Sousa Sudler Cup award.
The band program has been named the winner of the 2016 John Philip Sousa Foundation Sudler Cup, a prestigious national award recognizing excellence in middle school band programs over a period of several years. Clark is the first FISD campus to receive the award. The number of recipients nationwide has ranged from zero schools to four schools annually since the Cup’s introduction in 1985.
