Congratulations to the Stafford Middle School Spartan Band on receiving the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) Texas Chapter Outstanding Program Award. This is the first year that a Frisco school has
been honored, and FISD is thrilled to bring home this award to our District and Stafford Middle School!
The award winner is determined by The Texas Chapter of ASBDA in recognition of high performing programs that exhibit quality curriculum and outstanding work ethic.
The band is under the direction of Laura Bell, director of Stafford bands, and Andrew Fowler, associate director of Stafford bands. Stafford band students have performed this year in a variety of ensembles and concerts showcasing their cohesive skillset
and musical finesse.
They have been consistent sweepstakes winners at the UIL Concert & Sight Reading evaluation and have won many Best in Class awards at a variety of festivals. The Stafford Spartan Band made both state and national news when former principal, Robin Scott, took their beginning band clarinet class during the 2021-22 school year.
The Stafford Spartan Band program continues to make an impact for music advocacy!
“This award is incredibly special because it recognizes our entire program, not just one of our bands on an outstanding performance,” said Bell. “The honor is a testament not only to our current students and staff, but also to those
who paved the way before us.”
The band will be awarded a plaque in honor of their prestigious award. They will be hosting their Spring Concert on May 11 at Lone Star High School. The performance is complimentary to attend, and community members are encouraged to experience the award-winning talent that led to this achievement.
