The 5A Region 3 Swimming and Diving Meet was pushed back a few days by the icy conditions last week, but that was the only unusual part of this year’s showcase of some of the top swimmers in the area. Frisco ISD swimmers and divers once again piled up accolades this week, led by the team 5A Region 3 champion Wakeland boys and Reedy girls.
In addition to the Wakeland and Reedy team champions, FISD swimmers and divers won 19 events at the Bruce Eubanks Natatorium. The top two finishers in each event, along with the top eight times in the event from the other 5A regional meets around the state, qualified for the 5A UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet, which will be Feb. 17-18 in Austin.
akeland’s Jackson Armour was named the Boys 5A Region 3 Swimmer of the Year, while Wakeland teammate Timothy Robertson was named the Boys Region Diver of the Year. Reedy’s Camryn Gantzer was named the Girls Region Diver of the Year.
Claudia Sunday, who coaches all of FISD’s divers, was named the 5A Region 3 Dive Coach of the Year, Liberty’s Zach Gnoza was named the Girls Region Coach of the Year and Heritage’s Brian McGinty was named the Boys Region Swim Coach of the Year.
Congratulations to the FISD event winners (list below) and all the swimmers and divers for their hard work and accomplishments this season.
Eleven of FISD's 12 high schools competed in the 5A Region 3 Meet. Panther Creek, which is a 4A school in the UIL's classification by enrollment, competed a week earlier -- and won a regional team title -- in the 4A Region 2 Meet.
