The Reedy High School volleyball team became the first Frisco ISD team to qualify for the UIL State Volleyball Tournament, and after the Lions accomplished that feat, the finish to the season was nearly as amazing.
Reedy swept Liberty Hill in the 5A state semifinals, and in the championship match, Reedy came up just short against Colleyville Heritage. The final score was 25-14, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20 as Colleyville Heritage won the best-of-five sets at Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.
After dropping the first set, Reedy battled back in the second set to even the match. The Lions kept battling in the fourth and fifth sets, but Heritage’s offensive firepower was hard to stop as the team won its 23rd straight match.
“I am so proud of these guys. I’m so proud of the way we fought,” Reedy coach Katie Rudd said after the match. “I was very impressed with how our girls handled themselves on the court.”
Reedy’s Halle Schroder and Reese Miller were both named to the 5A State All-Tournament Team after impressive performances to cap their Reedy volleyball careers. But the entire Reedy volleyball team made Frisco ISD proud, representing the District well in front of a large crowd of supporters at the Culwell Center.
After the game, Rudd thanked the community for all their support this season.
“The community has done a great job of making us feel important,” Rudd said.
It was a disappointing final game, but that will be a small footnote on the best volleyball season in school – and Frisco ISD – history. Congratulations to Reedy on its incredible accomplishment this season.
