Volleyball is fantastic and extremely competitive in Frisco ISD, so the new UIL realignment is great because it allows many more FISD teams in the playoffs.
Last year, FISD teams claimed all four of the playoff spots available to the one UIL district in which they played. This year, FISD teams again claimed all the playoff spots available to them, but because they are now in three UIL districts, nine FISD volleyball teams will be in the playoffs this week.
Congratulations to District 9-5A champion Wakeland and District 10-5A champion Liberty, who lead the pack of FISD teams opening the playoffs Tuesday night. The only down side of the new UIL alignment, which is in effect for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, is that the FISD playoff teams in 5A must play each other in the first round.
Tickets for all the first-round matchups are now on sale at tickets.friscoisd.org. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students, and District, TGCA, THSCA and THSADA will be accepted.
Good luck to all the FISD playoff teams!
