FISD Fine Arts Recognized with Coveted Distinction

Texas Art Education Association Badge. For the fourth year in a row, Frisco ISD has won the 2022 Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction Award.

The award honors FISD as a statewide leader in visual arts. FISD is the third largest school district in north Texas and has nearly 80% of its students enrolled in its robust fine arts programming.

Only the top 5% of districts in the state earned the honor, and Frisco ISD has been honored every year since the award came into existence!

“The FISD visual arts teachers are simply unparalleled,” said Rob Draper, FISD fine arts coordinator. “They are not only passionate about visual art, but they are also passionate about empowering students to own the artistic process.

“Students know that it’s not just about the awards and medals, it’s about the process of creation and persevering through artistic challenges.”

Pink Elementary Art StudentsTo win this award, FISD fine arts programming had to meet a rigorous set of standards that included an analysis of student participation in arts programs such as the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), Junior VASE and Texas Elementary Art Meet (TEAM).

Through a rigorous, well-rounded visual arts curriculum, FISD art classes inspire creativity and build social-emotional learning that connects learners to their community and beyond.

FISD students know that visual art unifies people and transcends language barriers, such as when Vandeventer students sent art to Ukrainian refugees this past spring. The annual vertical art show invites the community to experience district artwork, and through student field experiences and community service, students experience artwork in the community.

“This award is a true testament to your visual art educators’ skill, dedication and flexibility that the quality of their programs continues to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students,” said Sandra Newton, chair of the administration and supervision division of TAEA.

Frisco ISD will be honored at the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly on Friday, November 10, 2022.
