Memorial Wrestling Team Leads Community Workout as Tribute to 9/11 Victims

Memorial wrestlers 9/11 tribute

The Memorial High School wrestling team honored 9/11 victims and first responders over the weekend with a tribute workout at the school. The wrestling team has been doing the workout annually for several years, but this year the workout got the most response ever from students and the community, as well as a visit from members of the Frisco Fire Department.

The workout started with a 1,402-meter run to honor those who died in the north tower of the World Trade Center and ended with a 614-meter run to honor those who died in the south tower. Between those two runs, the workout participants did a series of 300 lifts, along with 43 burpees -- a pushup followed by a leap into the air. The total number of lifts and burpees was 343, the number of firefighters who died after responding to the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.
