Chan Isom Named new Wakeland Head Football Coach

Chan Isom

Wakeland High School has a new head football coach, but that coach’s face is very familiar to the Wakeland football team, student body and community.

Chan Isom, the assistant head coach at Wakeland the last five years and a coach and teacher at Wakeland since 2008, has been named the school’s head football coach and campus athletic coordinator. Isom, who was approved for the position Thursday by the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees, takes over for Marty Secord, who had been Wakeland’s head coach since the school opened in 2006 and announced his retirement earlier this month.

Isom has been the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator for seven years, and in all seven of those seasons, Wakeland made the playoffs. The Wolverines advanced three rounds in the postseason last year, a playoff march that included a win over Highland Park, which at the time was the No. 1 team in the Dallas Morning News’ 5A rankings.

Isom has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Baylor University and a master’s degree in marketing from the University of Dallas, and he earned his doctorate in education administration from Liberty University.

“My family and I could not be more excited about this opportunity to work with our students, staff and community at the place we call home, Wakeland High School!” Isom said. “I am truly humbled and thankful for all those who have supported me along the way. I look forward to the future and the many successes we will share together at The Land of Champions! Go Wolverines!”

Wakeland will open its football season August 25th with a game against Grapevine at Toyota Stadium.
