The Texas PTA’s Secondary Teacher of the Year is none other than Staley Middle School’s eighth grade math department chair Laura Baker!
Texas PTA recognizes outstanding educators whose work embodies the association’s mission, enhances student learning environments and directly involves students’ parents and families in their school life.
“It is Texas PTA’s privilege to highlight the people who work tirelessly in our state’s public schools to make a difference,” said Texas PTA President Suzi Kennon.
Baker has been with Frisco ISD since 2015 and in education for more than 15 years.
Staley Middle School Principal Anita Robinson is thankful for Baker, who has been with the campus for several years.
“Laura Baker is a gifted math teacher who stands out for the way she builds relationships with her students and their parents,” Robinson said. “Mrs. Baker quickly earns respect and trust from her students, which allows her to engage
even the most reluctant learner.
“She truly understands the concept of investing in the heart of each of her students.”
Baker was selected from among hundreds of nominations sent to the Texas PTA. After a careful review process, award recipient selections were based on both the nomination and nominee profile.
“Mrs. Baker keeps parent communication ongoing even after a problem or issue has been resolved,” said a parent who attested to Baker’s qualities as part of the nomination. “Not only does she tutor students who are struggling, but
she continues to follow up with them and their parents.”
Her students proclaim that she is fun and energetic while keeping them engaged in their learning.
“I can only hope we are fortunate enough in the future to have my younger child in her class,” said a nominating parent. “I haven’t had this much teacher interaction since elementary school, and it is great that we can get ahead
of issues rather than trying to catch up.”
Baker has been invited to attend the Talk of Texas Luncheon later this summer during Texas PTA’s annual convention in Grapevine. During this event, she will be recognized for her achievements in front of some of the state’s PTA supporters.
Congratulations on this fantastic achievement!
