Wakeland Baseball Team's Incredible Season Ends in State Semifinals

The Wakeland baseball team's incredible season, which included winning five rounds of playoffs, ended in a heartbreaking loss in the state semifinals in Round Rock.

On Thursday (June 9), Wakeland lost 5-4 to Georgetown, which two days later won the 5A state title. Wakeland led Georgetown 3-0 after two innings at Dell Diamond, and after Georgetown tied the game 3-3 in the third inning, Wakeland again took the lead with a run in the top of the fourth. Georgetown, however, scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game and added what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wakeland finished the season 25-14 after making its third appearance in the state tournament. Wakeland was also a state semifinalist in 2010 and 2017.
