Principal Joins Students in Learning to Play an Instrument

Learning to play an instrument is no easy task, just ask any of the thousands of FISD music students who embark on the journey each year. One middle school principal experienced the challenges and rewards of the process firsthand, as she learned to play the clarinet alongside students this school year. See how the experience deepened the principal’s relationship with students and served as a lesson for embracing challenges at any age.

School Board Election is This Saturday

Have you voted in this spring’s School Board election? Three places are on the ballot. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, May 7 for the last day of voting. There are no runoff elections. Remember, on Election Day, Collin County voters may vote at any location in Collin County. Denton County voters must vote at the location in Denton County associated with their precinct.

Free Summer Learning Opportunities Available for Secondary Students

Students entering grades 7-12 next school year have the opportunity to participate in free online tutorials this summer to address any learning gaps and ensure they are ready for grade-level instruction in the fall. Students may self-enroll in these courses between May 16 - August 31. In addition to personalized instruction in English, math, science and social studies, there are also free resources to prepare for STAAR and college readiness exams!

Middle School Students Sweep Texas Academic Pentathlon

Each year, two state champion teams advance from the Texas Academic Pentathlon to the National Academic Pentathlon. This year, both of those Texas teams are from Frisco ISD. Congratulations to the Fowler Middle School eighth grade team and the Nelson Middle School seventh grade team! They were named state champions after posting the top scores in their respective Academic Pentathlon categories, each beating out more than 70 teams from across the state. Congratulations and good luck at nationals!
