Both Wakeland Soccer Teams Win State Championships

Wakeland High School is home to the UIL 5A state champions in boys and girls soccer. Only twice since 1985 has a school won both the boys and girls championships in the same year. Both times, it has been Wakeland. It was actually the fifth state championship in soccer for the boys and third for the girls. The girls battled back against Grapevine to win 3-2 in the state title game, while the boys defeated Dripping Springs 3-0. Congratulations to these students, their families and coaches!

FISD Adds Support for Libraries, Book Purchases and Review

Today, the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees approved the addition of four new positions to increase the capacity of campus librarians and expand library programming. The positions will be involved in the purchase of new library books and the ongoing weeding of library collections based on standardized criteria such as age-appropriateness of the subject matter, condition and age of materials. This school year, FISD has experienced a rising concern over library books. While the percentage of books identified that don’t meet the District’s collection guidelines is extremely low, a formal review of policies, administrative regulation and procedures related to library materials has begun to reduce the risk of the purchase of books and other materials that do not meet the District’s expectations. Check out this document or watch the video of the discussion from last night’s Special Board meeting to learn more about this initiative.

Complete Meal Application to Receive Pandemic Food Benefits

The federal government will make payments to families who meet the household income guidelines for free or reduced lunch based on the number of school days missed during the 2021-22 school year due to COVID-19. The benefit is $7.10 for each eligible day, which includes COVID-related absences, virtual attendance and school closures. If you have already applied for meal benefits this school year, no further action is needed to receive the latest Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). If you believe you may meet the income threshold and have not yet completed the FISD 2021-22 meal application, you are encouraged to do so by April 29 and no later than June 30 to receive the latest P-EBT.
