The Wakeland boys golf team held off Independence by one stroke on Monday to win the District 9-5A title at Irving Golf Club. The Wolverines finished with a two-round total of 593 and the Knights were at 594, earning each team a spot in the 5A Region II Championship.
Wakeland was tied with Memorial atop the leaderboard after the first round, while Independence rallied from third place to earn the second regional spot. Memorial finished third at 602, followed by Liberty (617) and Frisco (620).
Wakeland's Will Livermore won the 9-5A individual title, finishing with a two-round total of 2-under 140. Liberty's Mitchell Kalka and Independence's Noah Hankinson each finished one stroke back at 141. Memorial's Nathan Pheng and Frisco's Corey Maher each finished at 142.
