Memorial Boys Basketball Team Advances to Regional Tournament

The Memorial High School boys basketball team keeps winning, advancing in the playoffs and adding to an historic season at the school that is less than four years old.

On the heels of the Memorial girls basketball team qualifying for the UIL state tournament for the first time ever, the Memorial boys team qualified for its first 5A Region II tournament. The Warriors earned the spot Tuesday night with a 66-53 victory over Lovejoy.

Memorial will play Mount Pleasant on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the 5A Region II semifinals at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. That will come a day after the Memorial girls play in the 5A state semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. If each Memorial team wins its first game of the week, it would set up exciting back-to-back games -- on different courts -- on Saturday. The 5A boys Region II final is Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Culwell Center, while the 5A girls state championship is Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Alamodome.

Go Warriors!
