The soccer season gets off to a fast start this week for Frisco ISD teams, with girls starting District 9-5A play on Tuesday (Jan. 4) and both boys and girls teams playing in the Frisco ISD Dr. Pink Soccer Showcase.
All the District varsity soccer teams will begin District 9-5A play on Tuesday, with matches starting at 5:30 p.m. (Full District-wide athletics schedule here). The boys teams will begin District play on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
Between those two District start dates is the Frisco ISD Dr. Pink Soccer Showcase, which will run from Thursday through Saturday (Jan. 6-8). The annual event draws boys and girls teams from across the state for top-notch competition at FISD campus stadiums as well as at Ford Center and the fields at the Toyota Stadium Soccer Center in Frisco. Nearly 100 matches are planned, with competition beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Frisco ISD is always loaded with soccer talent, and over the last five seasons (2016-2021, with 2020 playoffs canceled because of COVID), FISD teams have played in eight state title games and won five state titles. The Wakeland boys won the state title in 2017, 2018 and 2021. The Wakeland girls won the state title in 2018 and the Centennial girls won in 2016.
