The District 9-5A Cross Country Meet was once again a showcase of Frisco ISD’s top high school distance runners, this time led by the team victories of the Wakeland girls and Reedy boys.

Independence’s Brighton Mooney won the girls race and Wakeland’s Chloe Smith was second at Warren Sports Complex. Wakeland’s Nati Enright won the boys race and Reedy’s Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles was second.

Wakeland won the girls team title with the help of four finishers in the top 10: Smith, Cari Cochran (7th), Madelyn Schroeder (8th) and Rebekah Gould (10th). The Reedy girls were second as a team, led by fourth-place finisher Sahasra Gutta, and Lone Star was third, led by sixth-place Addison Leffke.

Reedy won the boys title, led by Gonzalez-Rodiles and Garrick Spieler (fourth). Wakeland was second, led by Enright and Hayden Coghlan (fifth). Liberty finished third, led by Devansh Saxena (sixth) and Andrew Jauregui (seventh).

The race was pushed back a day because of the rainy weather, allowing the course to be in good shape. The top 10 boys and girls finishers, along with the top three girls and top three boys teams, advanced to the 5A Region 2 meet on Oct. 26.
