District Runners Excel at Frisco ISD Cross Country Invitational

Individual champions Brighton Mooney of Independence and Nati Enright of Wakeland highlighted another strong showing by FISD runners Saturday at the Frisco ISD Cross Country Invitational at Warren Sports Complex.

Enright took the lead in the final quarter mile and pulled away in the boys race, taking the title in 15 minutes, 14.88 seconds and helping Wakeland win the boys team title. Mooney dominated the girls race, finishing in 18:02.97, nearly 27 seconds faster than the next finisher.

Reedy finished second in the boys team standings, led by an eighth-place finish by Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles and 11th-place finish by Garrick Spieler. Wakeland’s Hayden Coghlan was 12th and a trio of Liberty runners finished close together -- Fernando Leyva-Montiel (14th), Devansh Saxena (15th) and Andrew Juaregui (16th). They helped Liberty finish third as a team in the 38th running of the meet that this year featured runners from more than 25 schools.

Wakeland was third in the girls team standings, led by Chloe Smith (third individually) and Cari Cochran (15th). Memorial’s Erin O’Brien finished 7th and two Liberty runners finished in the top 20: Jada Williams (12th) and Sofia Golladay (17th).

Frisco ISD had four teams in the girls top 10, with Wakeland, Reedy (7th), Liberty (8th) and Independence (10th). Highland Park won the girls team championship.

FISD teams will continue training and competing as they work toward the District 9-5A Meet, which will be held October 14 at Warren Sports Complex.
