Secondary Students Have Access to Free Online Tutorials

Frisco ISD teachers offer weekly online tutorials in the evenings to middle and high school students, saving parents time and money that they might otherwise spend on outside tutors. A similar offering for elementary students will not continue in the 2021-22 school year due to limited student participation last school year. The student-driven online tutoring initiative started in 2019 and continues to be popular with secondary students.

“The District wants to make the knowledge and expertise of a classroom teacher available after the workday for families,” said Tiffany Carey, director of innovative learning. “Learning can happen anytime, anywhere and Frisco ISD is proud to provide help to students who need a quick reteach, additional strategies or content clarification.”

The tutorials are facilitated by Frisco ISD Reaching All Innovative Learners (RAIL) teachers, the District’s student-centered program that provides an opportunity for students to complete rigorous courses at their own pace.

Students across the District can participate in free tutorials in several core content areas with RAIL teachers, including:

The RAIL teachers have worked with the teaching and learning department to ensure alignment between what happens in the classroom and what is covered in the online tutorials. After tutorials each weekday, videos are uploaded in Canvas, the secondary student learning platform, where students can reference the latest tutorial and find additional learning materials based on student-driven questions for each unit.

Based on student participation, the dates and times of availability may change over time. Stay up to date with the latest on the RAIL Free Online Tutorials webpage.
