Frisco ISD Survey Gauges Interest in Online Learning

Mar 18, 2021

Online Learning SurveyFrisco ISD parents are invited to complete a survey before April 2 about their students’ interest in potential future online learning opportunities within the District.

FISD is exploring the idea of an online School of Choice should changes be made at the state level during the current legislative session that would allow Frisco ISD to implement this option.

The Virtual Academy currently offered in FISD is not allowed or funded under current law outside of the pandemic. It is only possible due to temporary waivers and flexibilities afforded to school districts as a result of COVID-19. Without legislative action, these flexibilities will expire at the end of the current school year.

Frisco ISD was already looking to increase the opportunities available to students through a virtual or blended learning format prior to the pandemic, and COVID-19 has demonstrated that online learning, while not for all students, is preferable for some for a variety of reasons.

The District is considering both full- and part-time online options, and the survey seeks input from parents on their interest level, preferred structure and primary reason for interest in online learning. Responses are for informational purposes only.

While the District is making no commitments related to offering online programs in the future, the data gathered will assist FISD in planning and decision making. Should changes be made at the state level this spring related to online learning, it’s possible new programming could be introduced as soon as the 2021-22 school year.
