The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has named more than 60 Frisco ISD students as 2021 National Merit Semifinalists in their 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
These academically talented high school seniors span all 10 Frisco ISD high schools and have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring.
These seniors began their journey to becoming a National Merit Semifinalist when they took the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
To become a Finalist in the spring, each Semifinalist will submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. They must demonstrate an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school administrator and write an essay.
All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists and announced in late spring and summer 2021. Merit Scholar designees will be selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Congratulations to these Frisco ISD students who embrace excellence and have been officially named 2021 National Merit Semifinalists.
