Read the May Issue of FOCUS Magazine

Frisco ISD produced the new issue of our District magazine during this unprecedented time of eLearning. The issue chronicles the transition to virtual instruction and highlights staff efforts to maintain student connection and campus community despite the school closure. It also shows how the community has rallied to support food insecure students during this time of heightened need. Don’t miss these stories as well as features on the District’s oldest living alumnus, two student authors, an Independence High School teacher and a unique contest at Hosp Elementary.

Congratulations to the Frisco ISD Teachers of the Year!

Please join Frisco ISD in celebrating the 2020 Elementary Teacher of the Year Melanie Rutter, a fourth grade math and science teacher at Vaughn Elementary, and 2020 Secondary Teacher of the Year Chris Ham, a Pre-AP and AP Biology teacher at Liberty High School. According to their assistant principals, Rutter “knows her students inside and out and clearly understands how each child learns best.” Ham has a “tremendous ability to tap into students’ innate curiosities, encouraging them to ask the right questions, monitor their own levels of understanding and to persevere through the inevitable challenges.”

Complete the 2020-21 Student Registration Process

The annual registration process for returning students will begin May 18-28 for the 2020-21 school year. Look for an email invitation coming soon to your inbox! Families moving within FISD or who will no longer attend FISD are also asked to complete the form. Proof of residency information will also be collected electronically for all campuses this year via a separate online form. In addition, updated immunization records may be required to finalize registration before the new school year begins.

District Approved to Establish a Navy Defense Cadet Corps

The Secretary of the Navy has approved Frisco ISD’s request to establish a Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) unit at Lebanon Trail High School. The program, similar to a Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program, emphasizes the importance of citizenship and personal responsibility while building leadership skills. The NNDCC is set to launch in the 2021-22 school year. All high school students across the District will have the opportunity to apply to attend Lebanon Trail to participate in the program.

Support College Scholarships for the Class of 2020

Like many businesses and nonprofits, the Frisco Education Foundation has taken a financial hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic, creating a funding gap for college scholarships for the Class of 2020. These deserving seniors have missed out on so much this spring. Help FEF impact as many of the 1,400 seniors who applied for scholarships as possible. Donate now through June 6 to ensure your gift supports the Class of 2020.
